What's in your soap?

March 28, 2017 Ole Mill Soap Co

Ever wonder what you are actually lathering up with? You should do a little research to figure it out. Never mind I'll do that for you right now!

After doing a little a investigating on some of the top selling soaps, I was amazed to see what actually is in these! Here is the ingredients for one of the top selling soaps. Good luck with the pronouncing them. Glad I don't have to read this out loud to you.

Sodium Lauroyl Isethionate, Stearic Acid, Lauric Acid, Sodium Tallowate or Sodium Palmitate, Water (Aqua), Sodium Isethionate, Sodium Stearate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Sodium Cocoate or Sodium Palm Kernelate, Fragrance (Parfum), Sodium Chloride, Tetrasodium Etidronate, Tetrasodium EDTA, Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891)

Say what? Look I'm not a doctor or a scientist or even a chemist, so i'm not about to break down what each of these are. What I can tell you is that companies tend to take shortcuts wherever they can and make things as cheaply as possible so they can make as much money as possible. This is also why they are able to sell there products for a fraction of what we can. Good for them I get it.

But who they are hurting is you the consumer. Take a look at the ingredients in some of our top selling bars in our essential line.

Lavender Ingredients: Saponified coconut oil, palm oil, olive oil, avocado oil, and castor oil, goat milk, water, shea butter, lavender essential oil

See the difference? First things first, I can actually pronounce each one of these ingredients. Second, a quick google search of these will show all the health benefits each one of these has. I'm not going to get into each one today, we will follow this post up with future blog post highlighting individual ingredients that make our soap stand out among the rest.

The difference is that we care about our products and our customers. We are not trying to make a million. We individually select each ingredient to come up with the best soap we can make!

Next time you go to lather up with your favorite soap, check the ingredients! Ours are boldly listed on the back of each bar. We are not trying to hide anything, we are proud of everything that goes into our bars! If you haven't tried any of the products in our essential line, now is the time and we offer free shipping on all orders of $35.

Actually Sodium Tallowate, Sodium Palmitate, Sodium Cocoate or Sodium Palm Kernelate are the inci names for saponified tallow, palm oil, coconut oil and palm kernel oil. Inci names often sound scary when they arent. I do agree, though, that the other ingredients in that original list (especially the artificial fragrances) are scary.
